Richard's credits include, as a top contributor, over 300 commissions for Hollyoaks (C4), including five for the hour-long, late night episodes Hollyoaks Later. He also scripted Indecent Behaviour, a 90-minute Hollyoaks spin-off that was released on DVD.

Richard was one of the key writers for BBC's Grange Hill (BBC), for Brookside (C4), and for C4's first Daytime serial The Courtroom.

He started his writing career after graduating from The Northern Film School and being taken on the script team of Family Affairs (FIVE).
