Julie Barker

Julie is a scriptwriter and producer who has most recently written 20 episodes of the popular, cross-format show Armchair Detectives for Tiger Aspect which aired on BBC1 in 2017. Before that she produced The Hide, a five-minute film funded by the Scottish Film Talent Network, which won Best Drama at the WOF Festival in 2017.

She has also worked as story editor in Development for BBC Scotland Drama, and was previously story editor and producer on the Scottish flagship continuing drama, River City. One of Julie's episodes (written by Louise Ironside) was awarded a British Writers' Guild Award for Best Long-Running TV Series.

Julie was scriptwriter and story producer for the South African daily drama Scandal! (All Africa Channel, Europe), The Wild (DSTV & Canal+France) and Isidingo for the SABC (national broadcaster), and in 2009 won a South African Television Award for Best Writer in Soap. Julie's YA novel A Shining Star published for South African Primary schools has sold over 20,000 copies.

Julie is a member of the WGGB and currently has a number of scripts and series in development. She loves writing alone as well as creating content with other writers. She also indulges her other passion - travel - by occasionally writing articles for the Sunday Times, South Africa.
