Tara Byrne

Tara was inspired to become a writer at 13 when penning a comedy version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for an end-of-term school production. The ensuing collaborative process became the most addictive aspect for Tara. Hence her love of continuing drama, revelling in the collaborative processes essential in shows such as Grange Hill, Hollyoaks and Hollyoaks Later, for which she's received numerous commissions.

Tara's currently enjoying developing a 6-part drama series with experienced 1st AD, Helen Ostler, and actress Eva Pope. It's a large-scale drama focussing on gender, politics and the end of the British Empire. In addition Tara's pilot for a 30-minute comedy Head is available now. The pilot for a hard-hitting, 1-hour drama will be available by Spring 2020.

In her student days Tara won the Lloyds Bank/C4 Film Challenge with Balloons - a 10-minute original short that had a small West End screening, going on to be shown at International Festivals. She's developed a feature, written a book, judged writing schemes and made promos for bands such as The Raincoats and solo artists like PJ Harvey - but writing drama is her first and favourite game.
